Venera Terms & Conditions
By creating an account or using the Venera website, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the site.
1. About the service
Venera is a hobby programming language, and this site acts as its homepage, its specification, and a registry where users can publish and download packages for it. It's run on a best-effort basis, not as a commercial service with guaranteed uptime or support.
2. Accounts
- You must provide accurate information when signing up, and keep your password secure.
- You're responsible for activity that happens under your account.
- You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
- We may suspend or terminate your account at any time, for any reason, including but not limited to violating these terms. Where practical we’ll try to give notice, but we’re not obligated to.
3. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the service for anything illegal, or to publish content that infringes someone else's rights (copyright, trademark, etc.)
- Upload malware, or anything designed to harm users who download packages
- Attempt to bypass the site's security measures (rate limits, bot checks, etc.) or gain unauthorised access to other accounts
- Impersonate another person or organisation
- Abuse the service in a way that degrades it for other users (e.g. excessive automated requests)
4. Publishing packages
- You must own, or have the right to publish, anything you upload.
- By publishing a package, you grant Venera the right to host, distribute, and publicly display it, and you grant other users the right to download and use it under whatever license you specify for that package.
- You keep ownership of your own content.
- Published packages are public. Anyone can view, download, and use them, and your username is shown as the publisher.
- We may not review any package before or after publishing. Packages are provided "as is" by their publishers. Use them at your own risk. We don't take any responsability for damages caused by any packages downloaded.
- We may remove a package, or refuse to publish one, if it violates these terms, but removal isn't guaranteed where other published packages depend on it (see the Privacy Notice for how this affects your data).
- Package names are generally first-come, first-served. We may resolve naming disputes at our discretion, including in cases of trademark conflicts or squatting.
5. Copyright infringement notices (including DMCA)
If you believe a package or other content on Venera infringes your copyright, email a notice to [email protected] including:
- Identification of the copyrighted work you believe is infringed
- Identification of the specific content on Venera you believe infringes it (e.g. the package name/URL), with enough detail for us to locate it
- Your contact details
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use isn't authorised by the copyright owner, their agent, or the law
- A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you're the copyright owner or authorised to act on their behalf
- Your signature (electronic is fine)
On receiving a valid notice, we will remove or disable access to the content. We may terminate the accounts of users who repeatedly publish infringing content.
6. Disclaimer and liability
The service is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for any loss or damage from your use of the site, your account, or any package published by any user (including ourselves).
7. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
8. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
